Reus - where you feel like a god!

Reus is an indie game that is being developed by Abbey Games. This game is all about using the will of the 4 gods to find a balance between nature and the humans inhabiting the planet. The game features a unique art style by being 2d, but also having a very cartoonist look to everything(not a bad thing in my mind). Wanting to play it? Well sorry to let you down but it is not out yet the game releases on steam and other similar sites on May 16, 2013. I should also note that at this time there is only conformation about a PC version of this, nothing has been said about porting it over to consoles. There is not much information out about the game because no one has been able to play it  freely, we only have 2 videos that they released to go off of.

Gameplay

The game is played with a mouse and keyboard, i assume they are simple controls because the gameplay videos do not seem to show many complex keystrokes or anything of the kind. Even with the "limited" number to controls the game still has many many different possibilities that can happen and the game will always be anew each play through. The main objective of the game is to keep a balance between all of the people and nature. You can do this in a multitude of ways using the gods, for example the 'Tree/plant God' can grow plants and animals, so if you don't help the people by creating food and animals then they will not worship you and rebel which breaks the balance between humans and nature.

This is a frame from the video that shows the two gods helping the people collect food and grow their towns.

I realize that this is not a very in depth review of the game or much about it, but once it comes out and i can get my hands on it i will be sure to make a better review or just update this one. But for the time being here are a ton of in game pictures they have released and a video or two.

An old classic - The Binding of Isaac

The other day i was looking through all my steam games, when i saw the game Binding of Isaac and now i can't get enough of it. The game may look simple at first, but there is so much to do in the game and it is actually really difficult to beat. The game was created by a man named Edmund McMillen and a small team of his. This small team is well known to many gamers because of their two simple but great hits, one being The Binding of Isaac, and the other being Super Meat boy. This is a great game so let me tell you a little bit about the gameplay, lets try and convince you to buy this awesome game, or at least watch some videos on this classic.

Gameplay

The game is based off of old dungeon style games, that were made when games were making their first appearance. The game plays like this: you walk into a room, and there are anywhere from 0-10 hostile mobs in the room, then all the doors close so you are locked in, you must kill all of the mobs in the room in order for the doors to open. Then you repeat this process and go to the next room.

But the game is not all about just killing everything in the room and moving on. It's all about the way that you kill the mobs, and the different items that you get. You might walk into a room and see a golden door in the room, well that is where you want to go it has all the good stuff. For example one of the items that is the golden room could be a power-up that makes you shoot 4 bullets at once instead of one, it could boost your speed, hp, firing rate, etc. So far they have a 198 items that are available in game and that you have a chance of getting when you go in the golden rooms. (to view them all you can click here)

How difficult is it?

I think that the game is actually really difficult for a couple of reasons: you don't regain hearts over time you need to find/buy them, since everything is random you can get really bad items, and after a couple of hours playing you will start to make really dumb decisions and die a lot. The game also has a huge learning curve, when i first started playing i would die a lot and never make it past even the first boss. But like everything in life it gets easier after you play for a while, even with my all my time spent on the game which is only like 15 hours i have never once beat the main boss. I have gotten close but never beat her (aka "mom"). So hopefully you guys have better luck than me and wish you good luck on your journey into the unknown.

Thanks for reading i hope that i have convinced you buy this awesome game, but if not hopefully these screenshots and videos will persuade you. Just for the curious i am in no way connected to any of the games on here that i write articles on, i just write them for the fun of it and to help you guys find awesome indie games and in the process help out the indie developers. I would greatly appreciate it if you would tell me what you like and dislike about my articles either in the comments below or via twitter @The_Gent_Turtle!

Here is a screen shot of one of the first rooms in the game, notice the golden door(that's where you find the items)

Then here is a screenshot of one of the bosses, and you can see that bomb with a smiley face is the item that i found in the gold room.

And finally here is a video of gameplay:

Tower wars! Its not a game its a war!

Have you heard of it?

If you have then you have proably already gotten a beta key and played the crap out of it like i did! But if your answer is no then you have some learning to do! Let me give you a quick summary of the game. There is an online and singleplayer gameplay, the online you play against other people while singleplayer is just where you defend and then the cpu sends waves against you, i will explain this more in depth later on. But basically there are two teams red and blue and you go to war sending troops and building your defenses all while stabling your ever chaning economy. Sound fun right!

The Multiplayer gameplay

This is what everyone wants to play, its the meat of the game that they worked the hardest on! By they i mean SuperVillain studios, they did a great job putting this awesome game together! But any ways the actual gameplay, so like i said before there are two teams and you each get a side of the map. Both sides are exact replicas of each other so no one is at a disadvantage. You start off with a weak troop around 500 coins and 3 mines with 1 miner each, and 0 battle points. Well what does it all mean?

Well let me tell you, the troop is like in any other tower defense game you save up coins to go send out a troop, the first guy costs 25 coins but other troops can cost much more. Then the coin system, so you start off with the original 500 or so and you have to send out some troops, place towers, and buy miners all when you start off the match. Now to talk about the miners so you start off with one miner and i think 3 mines(may vary) and what they do is collect money every so often thats your main source of income. And lastly the battle points, well they are complicated...so i'll try my best. You can only get them by sending out troops, but then you can spend them on a variety of different things. You can buy upgrades for your troops like armor, hp, and speed, or maybe unlock different troops, also upgrade your main castle. Thats a basic summary of the multiplayer and i just barely went into to details everything will seem more clear to you when you actually play.

Actual in game footage of a multiplayer game

The Singleplayer

Currently there are only three maps to choose from, well i should mention that there are currently on three to choose from in the whole game(multiplayer included)! So basically instead of you sending out troops the cpu sends out troops and you have to build up defenses to stop them from making it to your castle. As you gain money and build your intricate maze they send out troops and upgrade them to try and push through your defenses. All the while you are upgrading your towers to stop them! It is a very fun addition to the game, there is no actual way to beat the computer because it is all just based on time so it times how long you lasted and you try and beat your record!

|
This is a glimpse as to what the singleplayer looks like

The Turrets

Yes the most important thing in any tower defense game! This game is unique because you need to balance your money out between the turrets and the troops. You have a choice between i think 6 or 8 different types of turrets. They have small turrets like shown in the singleplayer screenshot such as the crossbow and the cannons, while they have lager ones like the lava pouring monster in the multiplayer screenshot! But not all turrets are for destruction they have some that increase fire speed and damage and some that slow down troops with wind! If all those towers arent enough to stop them then you can upgrade all of them up to level three!

My opinion

In my personal opinion i love the game! I think that they did a really great job with putting it all together and it has tons of potential to become a very successful game! I like how you have complete freedom as to how you build your setup and how you can change the whole map around with just a single turret. I also enjoyed how you have to manage how you spend your money and be sure not to spend too much on turrets and then end up not being able to attack your opponent with troops. So not only do you attack the other castle you also have to think about defending your own castle, it is a very interesting concept and it brings tower defense games to a whole new level!

How do I play?

Right now the game is only in beta but if you join the steam community and friend "[SVS] Whyttrash" he will hook you up with a beta key! Remember to say thank you =)

Elite Squad an awesome indie fps game

Are you bored and tired of those Big time first person shooter games? Well not with this new indie shooter coming out! This game is currently a work in progress, being developed by 3 guys and a lot of time on their hands. They have been asked if it was based off a popular movie called Elite squad but they have denied it saying that it has nothing to do with the movie what so ever and that it was just a cool name that they "came up with." Since this is an indie game(independent developers) that means that they will have more time and be able to take into consideration what the people who are going to play the game want. Of course not everyone's ideas will be implemented, but you can contact them on twitter or facebook and tell them what they should do to fix or improve on!

What game is it mostly related to?

So from the gameplay videos that they have posted i would say that this game is kind of a mix between battlefield and call of duty, but some have said it reminds them of counter strike. The reason i think of it as a mix between those two is that the graphics look kind of nice and clean like battlefield and you can destroy some objects, and the guns seem more real with the recoil and other little things such as in battlefield. While the call of duty aspect being that the maps are meant to be smaller and not nearly the size of battlefield maps but closer in size to the call of duty maps.

Guns guns and more guns!

Yes they will have tons of guns! To name a few that they already have implemented are the ACR, mp5, m1911, TAC-300, AK-47, striker, SV 98(sniper), Scar-L, G36, knifes, grenades, and im sure there are a couple that i am missing. But as you can see there are a ton of weapons that you can choose from and they already have a huge selection of attachments for you to choose. For example you can add a laser sight, an ACOG scope, holographic scope, and im sure much more to come!

Some awesome screenshots, and video clips!

The latest update as of 7/23/12

Thanks for reading i hope you learned a lot about the game and are now as excited as me and everyone else awaiting the game! Oh and i forgot to mention but im pretty sure that they are giving the game away free for the first week so keep updated! Or otherwise you will have to pay these awesome people(which i dont have a problem with) to help support the game for about $10-15 they haven't decided on a price!

12 Upcoming games of 2012

I have been searching and waiting for some of the awesome games to come this year, some are major games like Medal of Honor: Warfighter while others are small indie games such as Elite Squad! The list is in no special order it is just an easy way of showing off all the games! So without further ado the games!

1. Medal of Honor: Warfighter

Probably one of the more anticipated games of the year. After the major success with the Frostbite 2 engine in Battlefield 3 everyone is waiting to see how it works out in the Medal of Honor Franchise. The story in this game continues to follow the story of Tier 1 operators and takes place primarily in the Philippines and Somalia. But the best part is that they got actual real life Tier 1 operators to help them out with the story and to make the game the best and most realistic they could. Of course they had to spice it up with lots more action and other things but some operations are real life operations which makes it cool to see how the war zones actually are and what some people have to do in war. And of course this will include Multiplayer! There are very high expectations for this action packed FPS(First Person Shooter) game and hopefully it fulfills them!

Release Dates: US October 23rd and the UK October 26th

2. Elite Squad

This is an indie game developed by a small team of two people, they are working very diligently and hoping to get an alpha build out this year. Yes this is another FPS game but it is different from all those major FPS franchise games. The game is made by two people so your opinions matter and they can take in the consumers opinion and make the game just how a FPS should be. The game will be free for the first week when it is released and then they are planning on selling it for around $10 - $15 after the first week.

Release Date: TBD

3. Black ops 2

This awesome sequel is tied for most anticipated with Medal of Honor: Warfighter. As far as the call of duty franchise goes most people would agree that the black ops game was really good especially with the map Nuketown! This second game is based in the near future i think 2025 to be exact and implements the ideas of the future in its gameplay. Since everyone enjoyed the map nuketown in the first Black ops they decided to bring it back for the second one but only if you pre-order it through certain places(aka Amazon and Gamestop). So if your in the market for a somewhat futuristic FPS game or just want to stay up to date in the call of duty world this is a pretty good choice!

Release Date: November 13th

4. Halo 4

Yes this is it the well known Halo Franchise! As a ps3/pc user i never really experienced the world of Halo first hand but from what i hear the gameplay is amazing and a lot of people love it! So this one is the eighth installment in the Halo Franchise and still an xbox 360 exclusive. But there is something different about this one it is the begining of a new Halo trilogy called the "Reclaimer Triliogy" and it still follows the main protagonist Master Chief. So for all you xbox 360 owners go pick this up when its released!

Release Date: November 6th

5. Assassins creed III

So this is not the third game in the series as you would think but in fact it is the 5th game in the main series. This game is still made by Ubisoft but like all the previous games it takes place in a certain time period in history. And this game is set in the Colonial United States of America during the Civil war. But the new thing about this game that sets it apart from the rest of the series is the new weapons, combat animations, and free running allowing him to climb trees and swing on branches. This game is very different from the rest but still has the same Assassins creed feel to it like we all know and love!

Release Date: October 30th

6. Watch Dogs

I know finally a game that you might not have heard of! This was announced at E3 like most of the games on this list and it just kind of stuck out to me because of the unique abilities that the game allows you to do. You beat the different objectives through the use of hacking and surveillance. So for example you may want to hear someones conversation on their phone you can hack into their phone and listen to their conversation real-time(in-game of course this is not real life haha). The game is very unique and shows lots of potential and also allows for the ability of co-op which is a neat feature. So if you haven't heard of this i would defiantly check this out it is really cool!

Release Date: 2013(I know technically not this year but just a heads up to start saving!)

7. Borderlands 2

Yes i know another first person shooter, but wait this is different it has a unique choice of graphics and the ability to customize your characters stats, weapons and much more! If you've played the first one then you know what i am talking about, and about how awesome and psyched you are for this sequel! This game will be focused on four completely new characters that have to fight through monsters and villainous people to get what they want! A main difference that i found about in the game was that they completely reworked the enemy AI system so that they will be able to follow you more accurately and make the game much more difficult. With the more advanced AI's they have put more of a focus on Team work so you can work together to flank the enemy. Don't let the cartoonish graphics fool you this is one awesome game!

Release Dates: US September 18th and the UK September 21st

8. Dawn Guard (Skyrim DLC)

This expansion to Skyrim brings a whole new light to the game...or should i say darkness. The main aspect of the DLC is to bring the aspect of Vampires more into the game! The vampires many thought were a kind of underrated "class" to choice but now with this DLC it brings a new darkness to the vampires and brings more capabilities outweighing the downsides of a vampire. This DLC also brings new weapons, armor, creatures, locations, characters, items, and even quests to the game. So with all that stuff i would defiantly say if you love Skyrim then this DLC is well worth your money! I mean come on who wouldn't want a whole extra 15 hours of gameplay!

Release Date: Out now(but it came out quite recently and decided it was worth being on the list)

9. Dead Space 3

Finally not an FPS game at all...sorry its labeled as a "Survival horror video game" but there is still some first person shooting in the game its just something your going to have to deal with! The gameplay style will be pretty similar to the rest of the series except for 2 little things. The first being the ability to dodge and evade attacks and the second is adding the ability for drop-in/drop-out co-op gameplay. So your friend comes over and he wants to play hes just chimes in and then he has to go so he just chimes out all the while you get to still continue the game with little to no interruption. With those two newly added aspects and the completely different story it would defiantly be something you might want to check out if you love those kind of dark horror fps games!

Release Date: February 2013(its close enough 2 months from 2012)

10. South Park: The Stick of Truth

I was deciding on whether or not to include this but it is very different it is a game based around a tv show...So apparently while i was researching this game i found out that there were 3 previous titles! But this one is a role-playing game where i assume you play as one of the kids and follow along to whatever they do in the episode and whatever else they include. The game allows you to create your own southpark character which you then play through in the game. It is a 2D game where you go around kind of like the show some of the screenshots and video look exactly like the show. I feel like i did a horrible job explaining it so here is another article explaining more in depth.

Release Date: March 5th

11. The elder scrolls online

You may not have heard of this, but Bethesda decided to create their own MMORPG(Massively multiplayer role-playing game) based around the Elder Scrolls Series. The game is set in the fictional continent of Tamriel and does not connect to any of the other games in fact it takes place a whole millennium before the event of previous games in the series. There will only be three faction for you to choose from: The Aldmeri Dominion, the Daggerfall Covenant, and the Ebonheart Pact. The game has surprisingly been in development for 5 years now and they just announced it for the first time in May this year! So without much further ado the Release date!

Release Date: 2013

12. Cube World

Have you heard of it? Yeah that's what i thought Well let me tell you. At first glance you may say Oh its just another minecraft knock off. But no it is completely different this game actually has somewhat of a story line you can go do quests for people to help level your character up and get better weapons and armor so you can destroy all the villainous monsters that roam the land! The game is set in 3d almost like minecraft except  it is in a 3rd person point of view and you move around like normal with WASD. Yes you can build! But not like your thinking, here let me show you(click me!). The game will feature many unique monsters and an infinite amount of weapons choices! How many is infinite you ask? Well let me tell you, YOU GET TO MAKE YOUR OWN WEAPONS! This game is by far an awesome game and will only cost about $15 when it is released which could take a little while since Wollay keeps adding on to the game! Oh yeah i forgot to mention there is going to be multiplayer! Enjoy!

Release Date: TBD(he doesn't want to release it until it is 100% finished)

Now that you Know about what games i am looking forward to, what games are you guys looking forward to? Let me know because im sure im forgetting some and me and everyone else would be missing out on some awesome games! So just leave a comment about what you games you are waiting on?
